On September 26, the press conference for the UIPM 2024 Pentathlon World Championships, namely Paris Olympic Games Pentathlon Qualification Event, and UIPM Laser Run World Championships was held in the solemn Zhengzhou Municipal Government Press Conference Hall.

Zhang Bin: Thank you for your question. Modern pentathlon in China has a history of over 40 years. Since the 1980s, our primary focus has been on the development of competitive sports, resulting in some remarkable achievements. We have proudly secured gold medals at the World Championships, including Qian Zhenhua's victory in the men's championship in 2005 and Cao Zhongrong's silver medal at the 2012 London Olympics. Notably, at the recent Hangzhou 2022 Asian Games, our women athletes claimed gold medals in both the individual and team events. These achievements have played a significant role in the development of modern pentathlon over the past four decades.
Moreover, Zhengzhou, located in Henan province, has emerged as a vital contributor to modern pentathlon in China, producing exceptional athletes. In the 1987 National Games, Henan province won three out of the four gold medals in modern pentathlon. Additionally, at the 2005 National Games, our Henan-born athlete, Xiu Xiu, clinched a gold medal. Henan's substantial contributions to the sport cannot be overlooked.
As previously mentioned by Dr Klaus Schulman, Secretary-General Shiny Fang, Chairman Ji Daoming, and the Mayor, this is a pivotal moment for international and Chinese modern pentathlon. Our objective is not only to promote the sport's development and excel in competitive sports but also to involve a broader range of individuals, including ordinary citizens and young people, in modern pentathlon. By doing so, we can make even greater contributions to the sport's advancement. This is why hosting the Zhengzhou Double World Championships holds significant importance. The Chinese Modern Pentathlon Association, in collaboration with the Zhengzhou Municipal Government and the Henan Provincial Bureau of Sports, aims to contribute to the nation's fitness promotion, the growth of competitive sports, and the establishment of a sports powerhouse.
